From
his earliest piping days, John Elliott has led pipers and drummers.
A Pipe Major of a top-flight band at the age of 24, the holder of
the top pipe band prizes while still a young piper and a top amateur
solo piper and winner of professional prizes, he has a major impact
on the North American piping scene.
From his first lessons at the age
of 8, John demonstrated considerable talent. Like many other players,
initial involvement came in the way of a junior band: Jock Campbell's
Kiwanas Golden Mile Boys Pipe Band, a mainstay of Toronto piping
in the sixties. From humble beginnings John graduated
up the ladder of competitive
pipe bands; the RCAF400 Squadron Pipe Band followed as well as continuing
his solo piping career under the tutelage of the legendary John
Wilson.
